HOMEBOUND - New Wave

In focus

I had a poster featured in the HOMEBOUND - New Wave publication that features the excellent work of 75 designers from 50 cities and 12 countries!

The HOMEBOUND project began during the pandemic, when lockdowns left many designers and artists without commissions. Cihan Tamti, author of Breakout, created a publication showcasing free projects from his Instagram community. The result is a striking documentation of work that wouldn’t have existed under normal circumstances.

My submission

My poster design was a reflection of my emotions during that period, incorporating text from the books I was reading—something I found myself doing much more often in those months. The text is presented in a deliberately abstract way, at times becoming illegible, to capture a sense of confusion.

With the extra downtime, this project offered a refreshing contrast to my usual day-to-day design work, which sometimes comes with strict brand guidelines. It gave me the freedom to create something more spontaneous, expressive, and experimental.

The whole exercise inspired me to create this much larger piece here. A continuation of the initial idea, including more abstract interpretations I what I was up to during the time. For example - the top left section depicts a visit to the design museum a day before lockdown started again to view the Exhibition ‘Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers’ an exhibition about people, art, design, technology and photography that have been shaping the electronic music landscape, something I found very inspiring.
